Originally from Andover, Ma, Jack Brockelman started his journey to teaching Latin as a Classics major at Providence College. It was there that he discovered his interest in ancient history and Latin after learning about the ancient world and Western Civilization. During his junior year at PC, he completed an internship at the Worcester Art Museum to help curate the ancient armory section helping with research and curating official documents. He even got to handle a 1200 BCE Corinthian Helmet there! He shared, “My goal is to learn and share the history of the ancient world with people in an engaging and fun way. It’s why I wanted to teach.”
Mr. Brockelman integrates history, mythology, and Roman life in his classes, all through the lens of language. When asked what he loves about Stang he shared, “I like how there is an enthusiasm to learn at Stang. It’s really good for my class because I want them to be excited about learning. It’s so fruitful for young minds to think critically about something that is so foreign to them... although the Romans went through a lot of the same issues and drama as we do, with sports, family life, relationships - it relates to us all still.”
His passions outside of work include creative writing and he even hopes to be an author one day. In addition, he loves hiking, and all things nature. During the summers, he works as a naturalist with the Maine Audubon Society giving tours in the Scarborough Salt Marsh.
