President's Welcome

Dear Bishop Stang Friends & Families:

February is the month that begins to signal that change is on the horizon. It has been an exceptionally cold winter, and our recent snowstorm reminds me that this season can feel especially long. Yet the return of longer daylight offers hope, and as we finish moving through the “ten darkest weeks,” we are reminded that brighter and warmer days are ahead.

For our seniors, this time of year is filled with anticipation and possibility. As college acceptances begin arriving, members of the Class of 2026 are starting to envision life beyond Spartan Village. Important conversations are underway, and our students are thoughtfully considering the opportunities in front of them. These are made possible through their hard work, perseverance, and determination. Later this month and throughout the semester, I will once again be hosting small lunch gatherings with groups of seniors, and I look forward to hearing about the paths they are exploring.

At the same time, the future Spartan Class of 2030 is beginning to take shape. (Weren’t we just celebrating the year 2000?) Acceptance letters were sent in late January. We are putting the final touches on our Accepted Students Night for Tuesday February 10th, and we look forward to welcoming and celebrating the many students who have been accepted as ninth graders for the coming school year. They, too, are beginning to imagine their future, and we are both humbled and excited that they are strongly considering Bishop Stang as a place to grow, learn, and thrive during these critical formative years.

February also provides us with an opportunity to reflect, learn, and be inspired as we celebrate Black History Month. This month, our school librarian, Ann O’Leary, will be recognizing Frederick Douglass’ birthday by collaborating with our U.S. History classes on a meaningful lesson highlighting his impact, as well as the lesser-known story of Polly Johnson of New Bedford and her important connection to Mr. Douglass.

As we look ahead, Lent will begin with Ash Wednesday, which falls during February break this year. It is a meaningful reminder of the season to come, one that invites us to pause, reflect, and renew our commitment to faith, gratitude, and service.

May you continue to be touched by God’s grace during these quieter winter days.

For Bishop Stang,

Jim Benson

President
